The Irish Wilderness

The 16,227 acre Irish Wilderness is a protected natural wilderness located just 15 miles upstream from Eagle Ranch in the Mark Twain National Forrest.

The main trail in the wilderness is the 19.6 mile Whites Creek Trail.

  • No motorized or mechanized vehicles are allowed, which includes bicycles.
  • Horseback riding, camping, fishing and hunting are allowed with proper permits.
  • Scenic attractions include Fiddler and Bliss Springs, both cool and refreshing places to stop for a break.

Also of interest are Whites Creek Cave and other caves along the trail around Whites Creek, steep limestone bluffs overlooking the Eleven Point River, and the unique plant and wildlife communities.
